WELCOME BACK – The Cubs announced that Brian Matusz, since being designated for assignment, had cleared waivers and accepted an outright assignment to Iowa. He could have elected to go to free agency, but at this point his odds of getting a job would probably be slim. The Cubs are probably his last stop unless he shows enough. He’ll pitch in Iowa and will probably be used in the rotation to add to depth in case one of our Major League guys go down, similar to what they are doing with Trevor Cahill.
