Al Yellon created Bleed Cubbie Blue and has been its managing editor since 2005. He's also written three books about the Cubs, the latest is "Chicago Cubs Firsts."
The Cubs got off to a terrible start in 1943, losing 22 of their first 31 and crashing right into last place.
They played better later on, including a 20-9 July, but it wasn’t enough to get them over .500. They finished 74-79 and it was only that “good” because they won 13 of their last 17.
They did make a few interesting deals, though. I’m including a non-player-for-player deal because it was fairly significant.
