Al Yellon created Bleed Cubbie Blue and has been its managing editor since 2005. He's also written three books about the Cubs, the latest is "Chicago Cubs Firsts."
The Cubs finished 75-79 in 1940. It was their first losing season in 15 years, truly the end of an era.
Even so, the team did muddle around .500 for a while, but were never really anywhere near contention, as the Reds won 100 games that year.
And so the Cubs didn’t make many changes. As has been the case with a few other articles in this series, I’m including some deals other than player-for-player trades, because there weren’t many of those.
