CHICAGO – Eric Hinske's discovery is not on par with that of the light bulb or some far-off planetary system. But within the context of how baseball is played in 2016, Hinske is apparently something of a pioneer, with his stance invention now seemingly shared by an increasing number of left-handed hitters throughout baseball.
Late in Hinske's playing career, opposing teams began to shift against him, loading up the right side of the infield, and time after time, the left-handed=hitting Hinske would hit pitches down and in and chop harmless grounders right into the teeth of the defense.
