Gage Workman is on the 26-man roster until something happens to impede or halt his progress, in a curious version of Newton’s First Law of Motion. Inertia aside, Workman will occupy a spot, due to his Rule 5 status.
Not that there aren’t other candidates for that spot with special qualifications of their own. The switch-hitting Vidal Bruján has good speed and defensive versatility as well, and has displayed that and occasional power this spring. Here’s a 2024 Workman three-homer performance [VIDEO].
Ben Cowles, who is 25 but like Workman has not advanced beyond Double A, would also seem viable, if less so than Bruján.
