Carson Kelly has been both a starter and backup in The Show. He’s had four years of more than 300 at-bats in a nine-year career, and fared well enough. He has a pretty good bat — not just ‘as a catcher’ but 10-20 home runs and a .240-ish batting average, with 35-40 RBI, and a .300+ OBP would not be out of the question in an extended exposure. If Miguel Amaya falters, he’s worth plugging in. But his lifetime 4.0 bWAR (5.9 fWAR) doesn’t scream ‘why isn’t he starting’ to me.
