2025 Cubs player profiles: Caleb Thielbar

Caleb Thielbar, No. 24 in your program guide, signed with the Cubs as a free agent in late December, a belated Xmas present for the bullpen. He was signed to a one-year, $2.75 million contract.

He’s had effective years with the Twins. “The 37-year-old lefty has a 3.38 ERA in 347 career games with Minnesota, amassing 347 strikeouts against 107 walks in 320 innings. Thielbar has limited left-handed hitters to a .213 average and .593 OPS for his career, compared to a .240 average and .711 OPS against right-handed hitters.” (Jordan Bastian)

Clearly he’s more of a lefty specialist but that’s what the Cubs want, so it’s okay that his splits work that way.
