This offseason, I’ve been taking a look at some other teams through the lens of WPA and particular Heroes and Goats.
I started out by examining the Dodgers and particularly the spectacular season had by Shohei Ohtani. For those who may have missed that, Ohtani led the majors in WPA along with so many other categories. That translated to a +60.5 H&G score. For reference, the highest score we’ve identified by a Cub was Anthony Rizzo in 2015 at +65.5. Certainly, no one needed any confirmation that Ohtani’s season was special, but this was one more metric that landed in elite territory.
