Finally, a game that feels like vintage Cubs. No, not because the team pretty much clicked on all cylinders for one game. Certainly, this hasn’t been an ordinary day in, day out since the first half of 2016 when the Cubs were battering foes regularly. What I’m saying feels very familiar is the lopsided win in the middle of a number of close games. The Cubs won by eight. That’s seven runs that in an imaginary world could be scattered around over other games and create several wins.
Life and particularly baseball games don’t work that way. You don’t get to bank those bonus runs and use them on a rainy day.
