Last night’s game was simultaneously totally predictable and a little shocking to me. After an 8-1 road trip, a letdown game was so completely foreseeable. I essentially wrote about it yesterday. It isn’t surprising and it isn’t per se the gambler’s paradox. A team isn’t “due” because of some cosmic balancing act. At the same time, this game ended up surprising to me, because the team wasn’t flat. For seven innings, they played a tight, effective game. In many ways, it was more dominating than most of their road trip was. They were executing on both sides of the ball and looked like they’d cruise to an easy win.
