Edwin Escobar has spent seven years in Japan after some lackluster time in MLB organizations. He’s had some coffee with the Red Sox and Diamondbacks, but that’s about it, and he’s a lifetime negative bWAR player with about 25 MLB innings under his belt.
Presumably, the Venezuelan southpaw came cheap, and not at the cost of a 40-man spot. He’s been around and failed to make the big club repeatedly. He’s been passable in NPB though, to the tune of a 3.17 ERA, 22-23 record, 383 strikeouts and 143 walks in 392u2154 innings. He’s 31 and change, and frankly, I’m not expecting much.
