There’s no question in my mind that Yasmani Grandal is out of the baseline here and should have been called out, even without the unintentional interference. The umpires, though, disagreed.
If interference is called, the White Sox’ three-run fourth inning likely turns out quite differently.
Dusty Baker also outsmarted himself in the eighth inning. Down 9-6 with the first two Sox struck out by Ryne Stanek, Baker removed the reliable Stanek for lefty Brooks Raley, just so Yoán Moncada would have to bat from the right side.
