It’s been 86 years since a World Series game was played in Washington. That was Game 5 of the 1933 Series between the original Washington Senators and the New York Giants. The Giants won the game, and the Series, thanks to a home run in the 10th inning by future Hall of Famer Mel Ott.
Ott was a legitimately great player at age 20, much as the Nationals’ Juan Soto was this past year. Soto turns 21 today. If he has the career Ott did, he’ll join Ott in Cooperstown someday.
