The Chicago Cubs have already made the biggest splash on the trade market by acquiring Jose Quintana, but they're not done making moves.
According to MLB Network's Jon Morosi, the Cubs are interested in acquiring Alex Avila from the Detroit Tigers to serve as the team's backup catcher behind Willson Contreras:
#Tigers, #Cubs staying in contact regarding possible Alex Avila trade; Avila's .938 OPS this year is best of any @MLB catcher (min. 100 PA).

Detroit has already started the process of being sellers at the deadline, parting with J.D. Martinez and putting both Justin Verlander and Justin Wilson on the trade block.
The Cubs are also trying to add another quality starting pitcher, but it's unclear if that is a higher priority than Avila.
Chicago wants to upgrade their starting pitching and find long-term replacements for Jake Arrieta and John Lackey, both of whom will be free agents this offseason. As such, they have expressed interest in five players, including Sonny Gray.
Avila is batting .286 with 11 home runs and 29 RBIs in 69 games this season.
