Pitchers and catchers aren't scheduled to report to Spring Training for a little over two weeks, but new Chicago Cubs ace Jon Lester is already getting a jump on the competition.
Lester, who currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia, told fans via Twitter that both he and his father were packing up ‘the F-250′ and heading for Mesa, Arizona - the Spring Training home of the Chicago Cubs. That tweet was sent out on January 29th, so one can only deduce that he is already working out at the team's facility out in Mesa.
The 31-year-old veteran signed a six-year, $155 million deal with the Chicago Cubs in the offseason - a deal that also includes a $25 million option for 2021 with a $10 million buyout.
Looking to the present, the Cubs hope that Lester can anchor a revamped Chicago squad looking to bring postseason success to the long-suffering fans at Wrigley Field. With a postseason resume' like his, there's no reason not to think he can't bring a little playoff magic to the squad in 2015 and beyond.
