The Chicago Cubs are ready to double down on their efforts to quickly move ahead from their recent rebuilding process, and former Boston Red Sox/Oakland Athletics ace Jon Lester appears to be on the top of their list when it comes to achieving that via the free agent market.
Per legendary baseball writer Peter Gammons, the Chicago Cubs have a meeting with Lester this coming week:
am told that while Cubs, Red Sox will meet with Jon Lester this week,Yanks are to be watched, and process could last into December

Several sources have indicated that Lester is more inclined to sign quickly, thus giving teh Cubs and Red Sox an edge at this juncture.
However, if next week's meeting doesn't bear fruit, it's possible that the Cubs will also have to contend with the New York Yankees and their massive payroll when it comes to securing the dominant lefty on a long-term deal.
