We’ve known about the rape allegations against former Chicago Bulls guard Derrick Rose and his two close friends, Randall Hampton and Ryan Allen, for over a year now, thanks to a civil suit brought to court by the accuser, “Jane Doe,” on Aug. 26, 2015.
Since then, the case hasn’t been at the forefront of our sports consciousness. But as the suit is set to go to trial on Oct. 4, the same day the New York Knicks begin their preseason, it’s recently made headlines thanks to Rose’s own lurid testimony and other dark details.
One of the reasons the case likely hasn’t been as pored over as, say, Patrick Kane’s rape case from last year, is because it’s a civil suit and there’s no threat of jail time and no police investigation to give context to the stories.
