News broke on Friday morning that Rajon Rondo would miss Game 3 of the Bulls’ playoff series with the Boston Celtics due to a right thumb fracture. Rondo sustained the injury during the third quarter of Game 2, and a subsequent X-ray confirmed the fracture. His return is unknown.
Rondo’s injury comes at the worst possible time for the Bulls. Rondo has been fantastic, while the backups behind him have been the team’s biggest weakness through the first two games of the series. Rondo has nearly averaged a triple-double in his 33.5 minutes per game.
Plus-minus is a flawed statistic, but it ballparks how valuable Rondo has been and how poorly the backups have performed.
