The Chicago Bulls acquired backup point guard Cameron Payne as part of a multiplayer trade with the Oklahoma City Thunder on Feb. 23. Apparently, the Bulls knew early on that Payne might just be a fringe roster player.
"We knew the second practice that he couldn't play at [an NBA] level," a source told the Chicago Sun-Times. "The only reason it took two practices was because we thought maybe it was nerves in the first one."
Payne is scheduled to have surgery to repair his fractured right foot, and he will be out for several months.
