Martin Reway captured the imagination of Canadiens fans when he stood out as one of the best players in the 2015 World Junior Championship in Montreal and Toronto. He scored four goals and added five assists en route to helping Slovakia earn an unlikely bronze medal.
It was their first medal at the tournament in 16 years.
However things took a turn for the worse the following summer. An undisclosed illness kept him out of action for the entirety of the 2016 campaign, and doubts were cast as to whether he would ever return to hockey. At one point he was even transferred to an intensive care unit.
