Sunday night’s 20th anniversary celebration was exactly that, a celebration of the Fire and the soccer-loving community they revived in 1997.
The gathering of fans, players, coaches and others connected to the Fire lived up to the lofty standards set during the 15th anniversary gala in 2012. The fact both events were planned, organized and executed by volunteer supporters makes the evening even more remarkable.
While the 15th anniversary was held at the Chicago History Museum, this year’s event took place at the equally impressive Chicago Cultural Center. Both sites were chosen to emphasize tradition and a place of belonging in city lore and the committee, backed by Section 8 Chicago managed to pull off another evening befitting of something more than just gathering a group of people that cheer for the same professional sports team.
