I feel like it’s important to note that Dennis Smith Jr. has done absolutely nothing wrong. He hasn’t been tough to deal with, struggled badly on the floor, or even resist his role. Unfortunately for Smith, the rise of Luka Doncic as a star for the Mavericks makes it tough to play the two together, being primary ball handlers.
That puts the Mavs in an interesting situation. Sitting at 15-17 on the season, the Mavericks aren’t very far out of the playoff race, making Smith a very good trade piece in order to get a few more role players to make a playoff run.
