Fred Hoiberg has always been a bit of a slow starter.
As a college player, Hoiberg didn’t explode until his junior season at Iowa State. In the NBA, Hoiberg never really established himself as a solid rotation player until his fifth season in the league. And as a heralded coach at Iowa State, Hoiberg finished with a .500 record in his first year.
It was in Hoiberg’s second year at Iowa State that his teams really started to take off — he won 71 percent of his games in years two through five.

Hoiberg’s first year in Chicago was disastrous, and despite the injuries there is no justification for the free fall.
