Bulls, Timberwolves should make Jimmy Butler deal work

ESPN’s Marc Stein and Chad Ford floated some interesting Bulls trade news Monday. That’s right, Tony Snell and Cameron Bairstow for a reservation and a free dessert at Manny’s Steakhouse in downtown Minneapolis.

OK, actually it was the Minnesota Timberwolves, led by former Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau — you might remember him as the coach before Fred Hoiberg came here to revolutionize NBA offenses — interested in trading the fifth pick in the draft as “the centerpiece” in a deal for Bulls All-Star guard Jimmy Butler.

The concept of trading Butler and/or Derrick Rose to break up their ill-fitting backcourt has been the main offseason conversation surrounding the dreadful Bulls, who finished 42-40 and out of the playoffs in Hoiberg’s first, disastrous season.
