When the Bulls traded Taj Gibson and Doug McDermott to the Oklahoma City Thunder for second-year point guard Cameron Payne at the Feb. 23 trade deadline, they had their eyes on him as a starting-caliber point guard for the future. Thus far, he hasn’t performed near that level, and coming off a foot injury that’s sidelined him the last three games, he’ll spend some time in the D-League.
The Bulls announced on Monday afternoon that Payne will be assigned to the Windy City Bulls, and head coach Fred Hoiberg said after practice that he will play with the team in their two games this week in Hoffman Estates: Tuesday against the Westchester Knicks and Thursday against the Iowa Energy.
