The NBA draft lottery is complete and the Chicago Bulls have the No. 14 overall pick. The Bulls hope whomever they take will help their attempt to make it back to the playoffs next year. Missing on this pick will hurt their chances to return to the playoffs and there are a few players they need to avoid this year.
The Bulls could go in several different directions, especially if they move Derrick Rose or Jimmy Butler. We're only looking at players who are expected to be drafted in the range where the Bulls pick. It simply doesn't make sense to focus on a player who will be off the board, or include a second round prospect. With that in mind, here 3 players the Bulls must avoid with No. 14 overall pick in the NBA Draft.
3. Malachi Richardson, SG, Syracuse
Richardson is worth a first round pick, but Chicago shouldn't spend the No. 14 overall pick on him. The Bulls are in the market for a shooting guard, especially with Jimmy Butler's future uncertain. And while Richardson showed promise at 'Cuse, he would have been better off returning to school and becoming more consistent. It's likely better SG prospects, like Washington's Dejounte Murray and FSU's Malik Beasley, will be on the board.
2. Skal Labissiere, PF/C, Kentucky
The Bulls are in the market for a new big man, especially with Pau Gasol and Joakim Noah likely leaving. However, Labissiere is not the answer. He has great potential and athleticism, but struggled with Kentucky this year and really should have gone back to school. If the Bulls want to spend their first rounder on a big, there could be better options.
1. Tyler Ulis, PG, Kentucky
Before we get to far, I actually like Ulis as a player. He lacks size, but I think he's worth drafting around this range. However, the Bulls shouldn't be the team to take him. The Bulls are looking for another point guard, but need one who can play alongside Rose. With Ulis' severe lack of size, he doesn't fit that role. A player like Notre Dame's Demetrius Jackson, Murray or even Vandy's Wade Baldwin would be a better fit for what the Bulls are looking for. If Rose is traded Ulis makes more sense, but for now, the Bulls shouldn't take him.
