Denis Guryanov (Dallas) scored 33 seconds in overtime to lift Russia to a 2-1 win over Sweden to capture the bronze medal at the World Junior Championship on Thursday in Montreal.
It’s the seventh straight year the Russians have won a medal in the World Juniors tournament. Sweden has now finished fourth in the last three tournaments.
Kirill Kaprizov (Minnesota) put the Russians on the scoreboard just 16 seconds into the second period. Kaprizov drove to the net and put the puck past Felix Sandstrom (Philadelphia) for his tournament-leading ninth goal for a 1-0 Russian lead.
Jonathan Dahlen (Ottawa) leveled the score midway through the second frame.
