What do Blackhawks’ moves mean for Andrew Shaw?

The Chicago Blackhawks traded two players Wednesday in hopes of re-signing one.

The Blackhawks dumped $4,894,167 in cap space by trading Bryan Bickell and Teuvo Teravainen to the Carolina Hurricanes for two draft picks. With some of that created cap space, the Blackhawks will try to re-sign Andrew Shaw, who is set to become a restricted free agent.

The Blackhawks and Shaw likely won’t agree to a new deal until the cap ceiling is announced for the 2016-17 season, which will come before next week’s draft. But all signs point to the Blackhawks bringing back Shaw.
