NEW YORK -- The NHL has suspended Philadelphia Flyers forward Chris VandeVelde two games for elbowing Chicago Blackhawks forward Jonathan Toews in the head.
The NHL's department of player safety announced the punishment Friday.
VandeVelde received a minor penalty for elbowing Toews in the first period of Philadelphia's 3-2 win Wednesday night.
He will forfeit $7,661 in salary as a result of the suspension.
