Larry Robbins wasn’t looking to add to his wealth when he purchased the USHL’s Chicago Steel.
Robbins has plenty of money. He’s a billionaire who runs a hedge fund. Buying the Steel was by no means a financial move.
It was a hockey one.
“It’s important – I bought the Steel as a labor of love rather than a financial investment,” said Robbins, who grew up in Arlington Heights and now lives in New York. “I invested because I love hockey and I wanted to give something back to Chicago.”
What Robbins sought to give his hometown was another quality hockey option.
