It was late in the first period of Game 1 when the Chicago Wolves were just getting some sense of how difficult it was going to be to stay ahead of the IceHogs in this first-round series.
The Wolves had won 19 of the game’s initial 21 faceoffs yet were trailing 1-0 on the scoreboard.
One of Rockford’s two faceoff wins came at the start of the game’s first power play. Ten seconds later, Tyler Sikura re-directed Cody Franson’s shot and put the IceHogs up 1-0. Upon further review, it was actually Oscar Dansk, the Wolves’ goaltender, who accidently swatted the puck into his own net.
