Andrew Shaw wanted to get paid in his next contract with the Chicago Blackhawks, but he wasn’t demanding anything unreasonable, his agent Pat Brisson said on Tuesday.
“The Blackhawks did everything they could to sign Shawzsy,” Brisson said in a phone interview on Tuesday. “They just don’t have the cap space. Contrary to reports, we didn’t ask for $4.5 million.”
Shaw was looking for a contract around 7-8 years with about a $3.2 million cap hit, according to a source. The Blackhawks couldn’t do more than $3 million.
Ultimately, the Blackhawks and Shaw couldn’t agree to a deal, and he was traded to the Montreal Canadiens for two second-round picks on Friday.
