Rosenthal: Who stays and who goes? Assessing the managers on the hot seat

One theory on why the Philadelphia Phillies removed manager Pete Mackanin last Friday is that club officials feared if the team was successful next season, they would be stuck with a manager they did not want. The relatively new lead executives for the Minnesota Twins took over a year ago, and they are in that position now with Paul Molitor, whom they inherited and probably envisioned replacing in short order. Oops! The Twins are headed to the postseason after improving from 59 to 85 wins, Molitor is a leading candidate for American League Manager of the Year and a contract extension for him is warranted.
