Rocky Wirtz, Blackhawks give more than hockey with new community facility

Rocky Wirtz will undoubtedly be remembered by most in Chicago as the man behind the Blackhawks’ revival and multiple Stanley Cup championships.

Not that those achievements aren’t all well and good, but Wirtz’s most significant impact in Chicago and real legacy may have actually begun Wednesday when shovels were placed into a dirt hole by a group of young hockey players alongside Wirtz and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and ground was officially broken on the Blackhawks’ community training facility on the West Side.

The 125,000-square-foot facility is partly being built to enhance the Blackhawks’ chances of winning more Stanley Cups.
