Bryan Bickell announced last season that he is hanging up the skates after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, a disease in which the body's immune systems attacks the central nervous system.
After missing more than five months, he made a remarkable comeback to play in the final four games of the regular season for the Carolina Hurricanes, and scored a shootout goal in his last game ever before retiring.
But he never made it official ... perhaps until now.
According to David Haugh of the Chicago Tribune, Bickell is expected to sign a one-day contract with Chicago on Wednesday to retire as a member of the Blackhawks, where he spent his first nine NHL seasons.
