Alexandre Fortin, the surprise of last year’s Blackhawks prospect camp, will only be an off-ice participant at this year’s camp due to an offseason surgery, according to a source.
Details of the surgery are unknown at this point, but anothet source described it as “not serious.” Fortin had the surgery after his QMJHL season.
Fortin, 20, was an unsigned camp invitee last year and caught the Blackhawks’ eye by leading all players in scrimmage goals. He continued to stand out at the rookie tournament in Traverse City, Michigan and later at the Blackhawks training camp. He was ultimately offered a three-year entry-level contract and signed in September.
