Not so special teams: Hawks fall in shootout without power play, penalty kill help

Here’s a breakdown of the Chicago Blackhawks’ 3-2 shootout loss to the Calgary Flames on Monday:

Game-changing plays

1. Blackhawks defenseman Brian Campbell has been more active in the offensive zone in recent games, and it’s been paying off. On Monday, Campbell tied the game at 2-2 when his shot from the right circle deflected off Flames defenseman TJ Brodie and ended up in the net at 4:12 of the third period. Campbell has one goal and three assists in the last two games.

2. The Blackhawks’ penalty kill denied the Flames on their last three power plays, but that was after the Flames had already done their damage.
