NHL trio gives back to goalie community with camps

WOODRIDGE, Ill. — The 40 goaltenders spread out over the ice vary in every which way.

Some are short. Some are tall. Some are young. Some are old. Some are skilled. Some can barely skate.

Their common trait is a love for goaltending. None of them will be pros one day. They’re all recreational goalies who simply enjoy everything about being goalies.

That’s all that matters to Garret Sparks. An Elmhurst, Illinois native and a Toronto Maple Leafs goalie, Sparks had the idea three years ago to hold a camp for the diehard beer-league goalies who are part of the Facebook group Goalie Gear Sluts United (GGSU).
