Most of the summer offseason in the NHL is spent talking about player signings, prospect camps and preparation for the next season. Occasionally, however, we get something a little different — like a retirement.
On Wednesday, former Chicago Blackhawks center Brad Richards retired from professional hockey at age 36, after 15 seasons in the NHL. Richards was a two-time Stanley Cup champion, including once with the Blackhawks in 2015.
Richards had a key role in the Blackhawks’ third title in six seasons, especially in the Cup clinching game. He assisted on both of Chicago’s goals in a 2-0 win over Tampa Bay.
