After the Blackhawks selected Adam Burish in the ninth round of the 2002 NHL draft, they tried to notify him.
The first time the Blackhawks called, Burish hung up on them. The second time, it happened again. On the third try, he let them speak.
“I thought a buddy was playing a joke on me,” said Burish, who will be at the United Center next week for the 2017 NHL draft.
The thing is, Burish didn’t even know the draft was going on that day. He was actually driving back from a fishing trip in northern Wisconsin when his flip phone went off and the Blackhawks reached him.
