Morning Bag Skate: NHL Free agency begins after Blackhawks trade Brandon Saad to Blue Jackets

The Chicago Blackhawks traded restricted free agent Brandon Saad, defenseman Michael Paliotta and forward Alex Broadhurst to the Columbus Blue Jackets for forwards Artem Anisimov, Marko Dano, Jeremy Morin and Corey Tropp plus a 2016 fourth-round pick Tuesday.

Saad will return to the United Center on Saturday, Oct. 17 when the Blue Jackets faceoff against the Hawks.

The Hawks also re-signed goaltender Michael Leighton, the likely No. 3, to a one-year deal.

NHL free agency begins Wednesday.
