Mark McNeill opted for the major junior hockey route rather than college, but he still feels like he’s gotten an education the last three years with the Chicago Blackhawks.
McNeill, 23, has spent all but one game in those three years with Blackhawks’ AHL affiliate, the Rockford IceHogs, where he developed his game. He discovered how to effectively use his 6-foot-2, 212-pound frame to produce points. He learned to be reliable defensively and play in all situations. He elevated his compete level to be a pro. He adapted in moving from center to right wing.
And now, McNeill feels he’s ready to graduate from the AHL and move up to the NHL.
