Juiced-ball debate conjures an experiment that Blue Jays' pitcher Billy Koch conducted with a pair of scissors 17 years ago

As I read Tom Verducci's story today about slippery balls in the World Series, I remembered an experiment Billy Koch conducted in the Blue Jays' clubhouse 17 years ago. The baseball used in 2000 was juiced, Koch insisted, and he set out to prove it.

I watched. Then I carried out my own experiment.

Afterward, I wrote a story for a personal website I operated back then called TruNorth Baseball. When I retrieved that piece from my archives, it had a familiar ring to it.
