Jonathan Toews couldn’t help but hold a hint of skepticism as he recently paid a visit to McAuliffe Elementary School students in their Learning Garden.
Toews was all for what the Learning Garden taught the students about growing and eating healthy organic foods. He just wasn’t completely sold they cared about it. That was at least until he began interacting with them.
“You’re never sure what they might be retaining or if they’re even interested in it,” Toews said recently. “When kids are connected to something that they helped grow or helped make themselves, I think there’s a personal connection there, and it means a lot more to them to learn about that sort of thing if they’re personally involved.
