Jamal Mayers joins Blackhawks' front office as community liaison

Mayers' new role will involve promoting growth in local youth hockey.

Former Chicago Blackhawks forward Jamal Mayers will be joining the organization as a community liaison, the team announced Monday.

From a statement given by team president John McDonough, it appears that his focus will be on promoting growth in local youth hockey. USA Hockey reported a 36.6 percent growth in registrations in Illinois from 2008-14, most of it at the youth level. It seems likely that such an impressive increase is driven by the Blackhawks' success in that time frame.
