Forsling's contract could get pushed back a year if he doesn't make the NHL roster in the fall.
Top defenseman prospect Gustav Forsling will likely return to Sweden for the 2016-17 season if he doesn't make the Chicago Blackhawks' opening day roster, reports The Athletic's Scott Powers. The 20-year-old signed a three-year entry level contract with Chicago in May.
Forsling's contract requires that the Blackhawks offer him back to Linköping HC -- his team in the Swedish Hockey League -- if he fails to make Chicago's NHL roster out of training camp.
