Earlier in the summer, the Chicago Blackhawks declined to pick up the qualifying offer on 22-year old winger Anthony Duclair’s contract. Had they not waived their rights, they would’ve had Duclair on a one-year, $1.2 million cap hit.
Instead, he singed with a one-year contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets for $650,000, as reported by Renaud Levoie of TVZ Sports.
Duclair at $650,000 is a steal for Columbus. Though his last performance didn’t earn him $1.2 million from the Hawks, it does earn him a second chance in Columbus on a one-way deal. Circumstances weren’t on Duclair’s side as the Hawks are in a salary cap pinch and don’t have unlimited money, or roster spaces, to hand out.
