Corey Crawford stops 39 as Blackhawks win ninth straight

MONTREAL – Ryan Garbutt scored the game-winning goal and Corey Crawford was once again stellar in his hometown as the Blackhawks beat the Montreal Canadiens 2-1 on Thursday night.

Coach Joel Quenneville became the second all-time winningest NHL coach with his 783 victories. The Blackhawks have now won nine in a row. Crawford, who entered this game with a .954 career save percentage against the Canadiens, stopped 39 of 40 shots for his seventh consecutive victory.

Richard Panik had a secondary assist on Garbutt’s goal for his first point in a Blackhawks uniform.

Jonathan Toews, who was open for an Andrew Shaw pass, gave the Blackhawks a 1-0 lead 8:26 into the first period.
