Chicago Blackhawks: Daniel Carcillo Retires

Former Chicago Blackhawks forward Daniel Carcillo announced he is retiring in an article for The Players’ Tribune on Thursday. Carcillo, 30, played three seasons with the Blackhawks and was part of two Stanley Cup teams.

Carcillo wrote that the death of his friend and former Blackhawk Steve Montador was an important reason he decided to hang up the skates. Montador’s death inspired Carcillo to create the Chapter 5 Foundation in the defenseman’s honor (Montador wore No. 5). Carcillo wrote he will try to help fellow athletes cope with leaving the game in the next chapter of his life.
