With the Chicago Blackhawks spiraling into a hole that appears likely to suck up their postseason qualification streak, the team made a move today. Defenseman Jan Rutta was placed on injured reserve, while Carl Dahlstrom has been recalled from the AHL’s Rockford IceHogs.
I’d venture a guess we were bound to see some youngsters getting called up sooner rather than later, as it’s pretty clear the Blackhawks aren’t going anywhere this season and are trending younger anyway. It’d behoove them to take a closer look at some of their newbies outside a training camp scenario.
Dahlstrom is a 2013 second-round draft pick of the Blackhawks who has 23 points in 47 games with the IceHogs this season.
